I have had a few questions lately on fishing in our club tournaments so I thought it best to post them in our news section so everyone is on the same page.
First question is: Do you have to have a partner or can you fish alone?
As for the fishing alone you can fish alone if you want but we love to see boat with partners in them. Since we are a club it just makes sense to fish in teams, as the weight of both fishermen is added together for weigh-in.
Second ask question: Is there any one looking for a partner?
At this time we do not have a running list of people looking for partners but the best way I can say is to stop by our April meeting and ask around you might find one that way. I'm hoping to setup a list once the season get closer but nothing is set up as of yet.
Third asked question was: what is the cost of fishing one of your tournaments?
I'll try to explain how we set up the fees, how they work, also what they cost at each level for those fishing with us. First thing is everyone, member or not, has to pay a one time registration fee of ten dollars ($10.00) to fish with us, now that is good for the whole season member or not.
Now fishing as a non-club member it will cost a team forty dollars ($40.00) for the entry fee and their registration fees. So the first tournament will cost sixty dollars ($60.00) for tany team and each tournament after that will cost them only forty dollars ($40.00) for that same team.
Fishing as a club member will cost the team a twenty-five dollars ($25.00) entry fee and their registration fees. Also they pay have to pay a one time membership fee of fifteen dollars ($15.00) to join the club. So if they wait till their first tournament they pay seventy-five dollars ($75.00) for a team and only have to pay twenty-five dollars ($25.00) at each tournament from then on.
You might ask, what do I get for being a member?
1. You get a savings of fifteen dollars ($15.00) at each tournament you fish 2. You get a chance at winning a $25.00 gift card at every tournament 3. All family member fishing gets a free membership in to the club 4. When we pick lake for next year you have a say on what lakes we fish 5. Your team gets a chance to win one of the fifty dollar ($50.00) prize for: a. biggest bass caught during the season b. the team that caught the most total weight during the season 6. Lastly and most important is the club classic a. This is a members only classic so you have to be a member to fish it b. All club funds at the time of the classic is paid out to the membership
I hope you can find the time to stop by our last winter meeting, this coming April, and meet the members. We are a totally equal rights club so ladies and men are welcome no matter where they are from!

No real voting was done do to the weather conditions and that most member where unable to attend this meeting. The only voting that was done was to vote that the last meeting of the club, before season starts, will be the April meeting. This will be your the last chance to pay your 2010 season dues before the first tournament. If you want to make it easier on yourself at the first tournament, and not have to fill out the forms before fishing, this is the the bast time to pay them.
Notice, if you have any questions or concerns you would like to address before our season starts have them at the April meeting. As everyone knows no changes to rules or bylaws are done after the last winter meeting.
I hope to have a club flier set up in the next week or so, if you would like to copy it and place it in stores, or any place you can think, of it would be great.
There are plans to hand a raffle for a brand new custom rod, as soon as I get all the details I will add them to the news section of the site.
Remember if you know any one that might like to fish with us or just to set around and talk fishing let them know of the April meeting.

August 30
After weight in yesterday it was voted, do to the number of stumps at the Allegan lake launch, that we would start the Allegan Lake tournament at 7:00 am sharp. To keep everything easy and fair on everyone it was also said we will go till 1:00 am weigh-in.
Pine Lake is still the lake leading the race to be the classic lake for this year but Allegan Lake has a good chance to take the lead. Allegan Lake has a number of small mouths so the action and weigh-in has the possibilities of one of the better tournament of the year.
Nineteen member have enough tournaments under their belt to make it to the Classic this year, but four more members have a good chance to be there if they make the last tournament of the year. So right now we have a possibility of ten boat at the classic with a few more if things work out for them.
Aug. 22
Our last two open tournaments are scheduled for Big Fish Lakein Van Buren on 08/29/09, and Lake Allegan in Allegan on 09/05/09.
The member only classic is scheduled for 09/12/09and as of this time it will be on Pine Lake. Since it was voted on that the lake with the most weight will be the classic lake, Big fish and Lake Allagan are the only two lake that still can take it away from Pine lake.
The first winter meeting of the Kal-Valley Bass Club will be held the 13 of October, the place where the meeting is to be held has not been set yet.
As was voted on at the landing today there will not be a time change on the last tournaments of the year. The last two tournaments will start at 6:00 am and go till noon. The Kal-Valley Classic will have a start time of 7:00 am and will go till 3:00 pm as was set in last winter meeting.
I plan to start a new list of who wants to receive email reminders of what is going on with the Kal-Valley Bass Club this next season. If you would like to get email reminders about next season please use the "contact us" tab here on the site or drop me a email and I will added you to the list.

October 30th, 2007 - letter from Jason Fleming of Michigan Department of Natural Resources
Interested parties,
A reminder and a couple of updates.
As a reminder, last season, it was decided to move the date back to the first work day of November for accepting applications for permits. That is the only change in the regulations from the previous year. We hope this will allow tournament directors to schedule out ahead of time for the following year and alleviate some of the push we typically receive in January. All fees and locations subject to permits remain the same.
There were minimal complaints this season regarding the changes. The biggest issue it appears we have is in the tournament directors making contact w/ our staff. We will continue to work on making sure our staff is aware that we need to be prompt in our responses.
The project to allow fishing tournaments to log on and schedule their own tournaments has been submitted for the 2008 FY. It was combined w/ an effort from Fisheries to collect tournament fish data all from one source. I know that many of you have been asking to provide the data and we are really looking forward to melding the two efforts to make it easier for everyone. The scheduling component will put the onus on the tournaments directors for scheduling their events and have a calendar that is accessible to all directors. The details have not been flushed out yet, but we will ensure that there are some simple business rules to prevent any "blocking out" a particular site. I see this application as way to ensure a partnership w/ the tournaments to make it easier to schedule and collect valuable data. I anticipate this will be ready at some point for the 2009 season (may not be by November 2008).
I apologize for the delay in this notification. I have been away from work and I am still catching up. Please forward this on to anyone who I may have missed. Thank you for your patience and please let me know if you have any questions.

The new location for the 8/4/07 Kal-Valley Bass Club tournament is Upper Crooked Lake in Barry County (Delton). The lake is available, and we have already scheduled with Barry County officials. We will launch from the township ramp, and the scheduled take-off time remains 6:00am. The change is a result of low water conditions.

Windy and sunny made for a pleasent day on the water. Water temps were between 49 and 51. Jim caught one small largemouth. We were unable to find a single smallmouth. Nice day of fishing, but only one fish.
February 24th, 2007 - ice fishing report - Maple Lake
Easy limits of bluegill: Location was the key. We fished between the park point and the damn. Once we were in the right place, it took less than 30 minutes to catch a limit. We used wax worms, but a bare teardrop caught fish.

December 26th, 2006 - message from Kevin Wilder
I talked to Theo and Stacy's last week and we are set up to use a room just for our meeting. I told them I hope that at lease 15 to 20 member will be there to vote on next years tournaments. So please if you can make just one meeting this winter please make it this one, as there have been some real changes with the DNR. Plus we got a few issues that need to be ironed out so we get every thing going for next year.
The DNR has raised the cost of permits on some lakes and removed the need to buy permits to other lakes. Five lake in this area will be limited permit lakes, so they will be harder to get. So this will make getting permits different for us this year and I need input on what you want to do. I plan to mail out the permits for the lake we voted on last meet, this week and should know what is going on with most by the time of the next meeting.
As for the club a member asked what happen to the other offices of the club and voting on who will be in them. So at the next meeting I will be putting up for vote the other offices and we will see how that goes. So it is important that you show up and give your feed back on how your club is run.
Lastly if you can let me know if you and your partner plan to attend this meeting I would be grateful for this information. After this next meeting I 'll be cutting my e-mailing list down to only those member old or new that show interest in the club. I send this out to everyone that has ask for it but it's just a waste of my time if no one is reading them and can not take one minute to reply. To the ones that reply I thank you for showing interest in the club and being thoughtful.
